Sex Ed

Athie from family planning Victoria came to the Xplore centre on the 16th of May during period 1 & 2. She discussed a lot about sex and sexual relationships. She also made a lot of jokes.

She told us a lot about preventing STI diseases and preventing pregnancy. She told us that condoms had a 97% chance of preventing STI disease and contraceptive pill had a 96% of preventing pregnancy. She then told use that there were three was forms of the contraceptive medication. One was the pills, second was the arm injection and third was the vaginal ring. She told also told us that the arm injection had a 99% chance of preventing pregnancy and the vaginal ring had a 96% chance of preventing pregnancy.

She explained about if you’re ready for sex and stuff like that. I found it very disturbing at sometimes and very funny at other times. At the end of the program Athie taught us hoe to use a condom. I found it very disturbing and funny at the same time.

Although sex ed has nothing to do with cool water assignment, I learnt more about sex ed in yr 9 than yr 5, 6, 7 and 8 combined.

Osteopath

David (an osteopath) came to Xplore to give us information about Osteopaths and what their jobs consists of. David told us that Osteopath was dealing with bones and muscle movement even if the name means bone disease. He told us the most common cause of back pain in your life is computers. Damn! I’m going to look after my back better now.

He also told us there are not that many osteopaths in Australia, only about 1000. I found that fact very interesting because I expected a lot more osteopaths in this world. He also told us the number of chiropractors and another practice that I had forgetton. I also forgot the number of chiropractors and unknown practice there is in Australia but I do remember that the number is very high compared to the osteopath.

Someone in the audience (I think it was Daniel Lim) asked if you can do the practice on someone while they are asleep. David told us that you could. He also said that there was once when the osteopath fell asleep on the patient.

Although the information I received had no connection with cool water, it increased my understanding of bone and muscle development, connection and relationship.

Sex Ed

Yesterday in Period 1 and 2 a guest speaker came to the Xplore Centre. She came from Sexual Health & Family Planning Australia. She talked about the risks of having unsafe sex. It was quite embarrassing with some facts that talked about involved us. She showed us different types of contraceptive things like condoms etc. She talked about things involving the law and violence against women. It was quite interesting but some parts were quite disturbing.

Yesturday's Sexual Health Guest Speaker

Yesterday there was a guest speaker, talking about Sexual Health.
i find most of the information were quite informative, but some where funny.
she talked about sex and all the problems about it. including safety of sex, homosexuality problems and medical facts.
there were other things that I've learnt, presentation don't need a very informative background, but you need to provide many information. Also use some humour in your presentation when it is appropriate, to make your presentation more attractive and interesting.

Yesterday at Xplore

Yesterday morning at Xplore we had a guest speaker, she talked about Sex education. She told us 85 minutes of information which ended the first 2 periods. We didn't do anything at period 3 and 4 because we had our electives. At period 5 and 6 we just did some of our Xplore work.

My Amazing Brain Workshop & Yoga guest speaker

The date was the 10th of May. During period one and two, forms A,B,C & D went to the hall to do a brain workshop. I thought it was going to be okay. We went in and got an explanation about the brain parts followed by a video clip about what happened to people that had frontal lobe injuries. We then had a person tell us about the brain. We watched another video clip straight after that. It was 'Pinky & the Brain'. I found it very funny though I could only remember cerebellum left, cerebellum right, frontal lobe, cord spinal and skull.

We went through a memory exercise. Our group memorised 30 out of 32. A very good result. We then dissected a lamb's brain. Mine had the cerebrum detached from the cerebellum. It was still fun.

After lunch we had a guest speaker about yoga and how it helps the brain. We went through a exercise where I almost fell asleep. The guest speaker also got volunteers to do yoga. It was quite funny watching them do the exercise. After that we continued our work.

Yesterday's Xplore

Yesterday morning we went to do 'The Brain Work Shop'. We first saw a video about how brain damages could change the way a person behaves. We then saw a cartoon about "Pinky And The Brain", the cartoon showed us different parts of the brain. After we finished watching the cartoon the teacher let us memorise as many part of the brain that we could, the team who could memorise the most parts wins. The teacher then told us to memorise pictures on a Flash movie, we watched it twice. After we watched it twice we had to write as many things we could remember.
In the afternoon we had a guest speaker, She does Yoga. She showed us a way to relax but i didn't think it worked. She then picked out some volunteers to copy here doing Yoga, it wasn't that entertaining.

Guest Speaker

Yesterday a guest speaker came and talked about Yoga. She took us through a relaxing process but I reckon it quite useless because it didn't really work. Yoga was about people's strength and balance. She said if you did the same pose every morning the particular body part which is involved with the pose would get particularly strong. There was a person next to us who kept on making really annoying sounds like snoring etc. After that she selected some people and took them through some poses. All in all it was quite interesting to see how the people balanced so well.

Today in Xplore Brain Workshop

Today in period 1 and 2 we went through the Brain Workshop. We got to dissect a lamb's brain. The workshop was very interesting and we learnt that if the frontal lobe of the the brain was damaged, our personality (mostly emotions) would change dramatically. A teacher played a song from the "Pinky And The Brain" which is about the Brain, and Pinky frequently pops in and sings "Brain Stem, Brain Stem". In a whole the whole workshop was an interesting one.

Survey

We just finished surveying 100 people about whether they drank tap water or bottled water. Amazingly the results we got was not too far from the ones we predicted.

Finishing PMI

We just finished our PMI, really short. Don't get why you need a PMI.

The Beginning.....

We have started our blog and it was quite hard to decide the topic we wanted to do. In the end we decided to do Cool Water. This topic is about the commercial and health of bottled water and tap water.
